VETERINARIAN - KRUGERSDORP

Rant en Dal is looking for a Veterinarian to join our busy 7-vet, 3-nurse practice.

We are a busy small animal practice that specialises in companion animal reproductive work, including AI’s & timed caesareans.
General medical work ups and a variety of surgical cases will keep you from becoming bored. To further keep life interesting we also deal with a fair amount of exotics including birds, reptiles and the occasional monkey.

We have in-house biochemistry facilities and have a high quality x-ray machine that produces high resolution radiographs ultrafast. We also do submission of hip and elbow x-rays for certification purposes.

This position is suitable for a general veterinarian that works well in a team and is keen to broaden their horizons.
Competitive hours are offered with two full days (8h00 – 11h00 & 13h00 – 19h00) and three half days per week (8h00 – 13h00).  Weekends and public holidays on rotational basis.

AHT OR VETERINARY NURSE – HERMANUS (WESTERN CAPE)

Hermanus Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) is looking to employ an Animal Health Technician or Veterinary Nurse.
HAWS is a welfare-based NPO in the Western Cape that services indigent areas and members of Hermanus and the surrounding areas. The clinic is mostly small animal based. The clinic has a busy case-load with a small staff compliment, with the aim of Primary Animal Healthcare and sterilisations, along with client education.
The successful candidate would be required to competently fulfil the following duties:

  • Assisting with general surgeries and sterilisations
  • Be a team player and follow instructions from the veterinarian
  • Handling and dealing with sick, injured and neglected animals in a skilful and compassionate manner
  • Assisting with general clinic duties (admin, cleaning, clients, stock taking etc.)
  • Primary Animal Healthcare (dealing with wounds, vaccinations, deworming etc.)
  • Competent in assisting with euthanasia of small animals
  • Competently educate clients with animal husbandry and during outreach programmes
  • Performing hospital rounds and attending to patients over weekends and afterhours
  • Good, broad understanding and knowledge of the veterinary field
  • Certain tasks such as general clinic duties, handling patients, outreach, client education etc. may need to be performed without direct supervision by the veterinarian on a daily basis.
  • Be prepared to work long hours and in basic conditions

The candidate must belong to a para-veterinary profession recognised by the SAVC and be registered with the SAVC.

The Position
This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of an exciting new zoo in the role of Manager Veterinary Services, utilising your skills in an area that you are genuinely passionate about.  The role will commence as soon as possible.

The Veterinary Science Manager (VSM) will be responsible holistic preventative Animal Health Care & Veterinary Services. Take a leading role in Veterinary Science, Research and Conservation Medicine. Play a leadership role in the Veterinary department and as a member of the Snr Animal Care Team. The VSM will be responsible to build, develop, maintain and manage relationships with Universities, Veterinary Faculties and local veterinary practices. The VSM is responsible for the safe use of veterinary medicines and formulation and maintenance of veterinary health and safety procedures.

Skills, Knowledge and Relevant Experience

  • A minimum of four years demonstrated veterinary experience
  • Previous experience in large animal or mixed animal practice
  •  Experience in zoo animal practice, not essential but would be advantageous
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Driver's license and the ability to drive a manual vehicle (preferable).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a small team including setting directions, monitoring work, supervising staff.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications, familiarity with record systems, such as ZIMS and web-based research.
  • First Aid Certification (desirable)
  • Firearms License (desirable)

VETERINARY NURSE – CAPE TOWN

The Animal Rescue Organisation in Schaapkraal, Cape Town, seeks the services of a veterinary nurse to perform the following services:

  1. Basic primary health care on small animals, and occasional equines or production animals
  2. Vaccination, deworming and parasite control of small animals, and occasional equines or production animals
  3. Administration of fluids and drugs to small animals, and occasional equines or production animals
