SAVC registration examination information for veterinarians

The SAVC registration examination for holders of non-prescribed veterinary qualifications, or persons having to re-register, is offered on an annual basis. It is advisable that prospective candidates give themselves eighteen (18) months to prepare for the examination.

In order to be registered with the SAVC, a candidate must pass both the Computer-Based Examination and the full Practical Examination.

The SAVC provides for the following examinations:

 Annual examinations

SAVC registration examination

  • The SAVC offers an annual registration examination for holders of foreign and non-prescribed qualifications as well as persons who have been removed from the register for three years.
  • The examination consists of a theory (computer-based) examination as well as a practical examination. The practical examination is made up of different panels – only persons who pass the theory examination are allowed access into the practical examination.

Jurisprudence examination

  • The SAVC offers a veterinary Jurisprudence examination once a year for persons who were ordered by an Inquiry Body to sit, and pass, this examination as part of their sanction for unprofessional conduct, or for persons whose qualifications suffice for purposes of either registering with Council to perform certain functions of a profession, but they must familiarise themselves with the local Jurisprudence.

Examinations when bringing a new profession on board
